CrossFit SPOT opening in my neighborhood was like a neon sign saying “get off the sofa”. Nearly a year later i’ve yet to regret walking through the door.Having very limited knowledge of what CrossFit actually entailed I wasn’t quite sure what i was getting setting myself up for and I was about as beginner as you could get. But through a comprehensive and challenging program I’ve gained far more than I hoped (still hate burpees and running though). Confidence, strength and community are but a taste of what SPOT has helped me to rediscover.”

With the number of CrossFit gyms popping up everyday, it is difficult to tease the differences between one and another. Since moving to the city, I have tried several of the boxes in town and, without a doubt, SPOT stands out in 3 big ways: professional, personal coaching, thoughtful and effective programming and commitment to excellence. From the high-end equipment to the vetting process from new coaches and from the daily custom warm-ups to the focus on HR training it is the attention to every detail that makes training at SPOT so successful. I have been doing Crossfit for almost 3 years and was making steady but slow progress. In less than a year at SPOT, I have figured out muscle ups, increased my clean by 25% and almost doubled my snatch. Thank you SPOT!

I gifted myself a membership to CrossFit SPOT for my 54th birthday. It has proven to be the best decision I’ve made this year. When I started I could barely touch my toes and was suffering with back pain. Now in just a few months my posture has drastically improved, and not only can I touch my toes I can actually see them when I look down at my feet. The programs have really improved my stamina and flexibility so much.

I just recently moved to New York City and am a current member at SPOT and I absolutely love it! This facility has been one of the best things to happen to me since moving and I couldn’t be happier to be a part of such a welcoming community! The coaches and members are supportive and have helped me to seriously transform my body! Since graduating college and becoming a devoted CrossFitter, the programming here at SPOT has been extremely beneficial!

For me, CrossFit SPOT isn’t just a gym or a place to get fit. It’s a rare glimmer of “me time” that I crave and look forward to at the end of a tough work-day. It’s a place to switch your phone off, think, decompress and destress, and work out — and this is coming from a guy who hated exercise six-months ago. It’s a place to meet people, make friends, and work out as a group, with supportive coaches that work alongside you so you can work at your own pace and set goals to push past. It’s tough, and you have to work hard, but the reward is spectacular, and it’s absolutely worth it.

We joined SPOT when it opened a year ago and our experience has been nothing short of spectacular! Having done CrossFit for 5 years, the programming at SPOT is by far the most detailed and thoughtful programming we have experienced, which has led to consistent gains and PRs for both of us. Combining this with knowledgeable coaches, top of the line equipment and an impeccable facility, makes Crossfit SPOT the place to go in Manhattan for those looking for an amazing workout!

A session with Billy is like a work of art. He enters the session with some preconceived ideas, based on prior discussions with you about your goals and analysis of your body, but he is amazingly agile during the session at adjusting and inserting exercises to address your body’s needs. For example, an ordinary trainer would have worked with me on my goal of getting stronger by just continuing to push me on certain heavy weightlifting. But Billy saw the need to work specific mobility training into the equation to make the weight training work, rather than just cheerleading for me to grind through the weightlifting. He is always rebalancing the interplay among endurance, mobility and strength to get me to the optimal place.

I began CrossFitting because I wanted to feel stronger. I continue to CrossFit because I LOVE the work out and how it makes my mind AND body feel on a daily basis…. Happy. It’s been almost a year now and I cannot imagine life without my hour at SPOT. Before I found CrossFit SPOT no one could even bribe me to go to the gym, I just hated exercising with a passion and hated gyms. SPOT is different to me. The rhythm is fun, the people are fun and the trainers are laid back. It’s a feeling of a fit community with zero pressure and zero stress. Everyone is simply encouraging because you showed up, not because they want you to be a super model. Positive peeps with a positive global support group. Crossfit_SPOT is my NYC home base, but I also CrossFit around the world when I’m traveling. From Brazil to Berlin to Los Angeles. Any place you go you can find that same cool vibe, with the same up beat message, to be strong and have fun doing it!!

I once read a book that said people maintain the ‘habit’ of going to a gym not only because of the quality of the classes, instructors or facilities, but most importantly if that ‘gym’ creates a sense of community and that ‘habit’ takes hold only when the later exists.
When you walk in, do people know you by name? Do you look forward to running into other members who over time become your friends not just other random people taking a class?
I’ve been a member since it opened in its permanent space in the fall of 2015. This place creates a sense of community and I’m happy to have found it since it is that feeling, more than the desire for fitness alone, wills me to come back each and every time. Yes, the classes are very challenging, the facilities are great and the instructors are enthusiastic, knowledgeable people you want to lead you to do better, work harder and encourage you to achieve past the point you believed was your limit. However, when I walk in each time I always feel like I’ve come into that comfortable, positive and motivating community which often feels like my second home. This is my favorite quality about SPOT and I look forward to enjoying it for years to come.

This facility has absolutely changed my life. To be honest, I walked by the gym for weeks before finally trying a class. I hadn’t been taking care of myself, didn’t know how to make a change, and had no experience with CrossFit. Once I started, it took me a month or so to fully commit. Billy and the CrossFit SPOT team believed in me before I believed in myself — they weren’t going to let me quit! I made up the usual excuses (cost, time, etc.) but they always gave me a reason to keep coming back. I’ve belonged to numerous gyms, tried countless programs, hired personal trainers and nothing compares to the varied classes, top-notch coaches and individualized attention I get at SPOT. I feel like I have a second home filled with friends who care about my progress and my overall success.
There is really no comparison between a SPOT class and a random group fitness class at another gym. Not only are the coaches the absolute best professionals in the business, but Billy has created a community that will set you up for success. You won’t have to do it alone and this group will give you everything you need to make a real difference in your life. I am so grateful that I found Crossfit SPOT, I can’t (and don’t want to) imagine my life without it!

I love this place! That says a lot coming from someone who hated working out. I hated any gym I went to. I felt judged, uncomfortable and I lacked the motivation. I really wanted to get active and fit, so when I saw an ad for CrossFit Spot, I decided why not try this out. It was different. I like different. As soon as I stepped into CrossFit SPOT, I felt a sigh of relief. Coach Billy was so welcoming and kind. I had a good feeling about working out here. When I started in September 2015, I couldn’t even do a push up and now I’m doing things I never thought were possible. A huge thanks to Coach Billy and the friendly staff/coaches for the encouragement and motivation to keep me going! I recommend SPOT to everyone, from people with no experience to the elite athlete!

My first CrossFit workout ever was at CF SPOT, and I could not have been happier – I’ll never forget that first Hero WOD – “Arnie” . Both the facilities and the coaches at CF SPOT are top notch, as illustrated by Kari Pearce’s dominance at the 2016 CrossFit Games.
I’ve noticed a variety of changes since becoming a member at CF SPOT. Not only am I in the best shape of my life physically, but mentally also. Waking up and grinding through a tough workout before I head to work is the best part of my day. The mental fortitude you build helps you conquer whatever life throws at you that day. I also find that my energy levels are far more even throughout the day, and I’m tired by the evening.
The members and the community at SPOT are also some of the reason I find myself wanting to go back. Everyone is super supportive, and while there is friendly competition, no one ever feels unwelcome or intimidated. The coaches are always there to guide you, and listen to whatever questions or concerns you have, and can make adjustments on the fly if someone needs a change to a workout. They are also great motivators when you need that extra push.
I would say that starting at CF SPOT has been one of the best things to happen to me in recent memory – I find myself always looking forward to hit that next workout, I’m obsessing over my times and lifts, and I prioritize my workouts over other things. I still manage to enjoy time with friends, eat good food, etc, but I find myself wanting to stay healthy and fit to properly perform everyday at SPOT.

I started at the beginning with MY SPOT classes as an introduction to CrossFit. In the year since becoming a member I have thoroughly enjoyed my time there, and have participated in nearly every class SPOT has to offer. From RX and Bodyweight Mastery through the CrossFit classes I currently take the staff have continuously motivated, encouraged and supported me in pursuit of my goals. I have seen tremendous improvement in my strength, stamina, and muscle endurance. The community culture that SPOT thrives on enables individuals of various strength and skill levels to come together and encourage one another in pursuit of common achievements. That culture and the attention to detail the coaches display keep me coming back time after time.

I initially signed up for the My SPOT program looking to try something new. I made Mike sign up because I was A little intimidated to try CrossFit. The deal was we would just do it for a month. We both ended up loving it and signed up as soon as the My SPOT program ended. As a couple it’s really hard to find a workout we can do together that we both enjoy that also challenges both of us. It’s a perfect mix of strength and cardio. The coaches are great and really give individualized attention. We’re a little competitive with each other so when we’re in the same class I know we are both going to get a great workout because we push each other. It’s fun and has definitely gotten us in the best shape ever.

“In 2011, I had no idea what I was doing with my life. I was a 205#, miserable homebody; a couch potato. Upon realizing how unhappy I was, I decided to do something about my health. I went to a party, saw a beautiful man who looked just like Thor, and after I picked my jaw up off the floor, I thought, “Wow! I want to know what he does!” That’s how I found CrossFit. All joking aside, I was fascinated, and a bit intimidated, by the workouts. I had no idea I would discover something that would stick with me for nearly 5 years, create so many beautiful relationships, and help me lose 75# in the process. The culture, the workouts, the people–all of these things have played a role in the strong, confident woman I have become.
Coming to CrossFit SPOT has given me the chance to relearn my passion through a different lense, with some incredible people at my side. For me, coming to CrossFit SPOT is more than a workout. It’s more than a good sweat. It’s my family, my community, and my passion. I wouldn’t be who I am today without this place and the people in it.”

My time at Crossfit SPOT has been, to say the least, life-changing and transformative. Although there are many beautiful gyms with great coaches and strong programming, it has been SPOT’s community and friendships that have kept me consistently working out at the same location since SPOT opened up.

Fellow athletes and coaches of all levels and progressions welcome each other to a warm and challenging environment. The intentional programming allows for fun, demanding classes that encourage members to get to know one another and develop meaningful bonds that sweeten the trip to the gym that much more. I’ve been Crossfitting for more than a few years, but at SPOT I found true friends and broke PR’s on a regular basis.

I’m proud to call myself a member of Crossfit SPOT; I think I speak for more than myself when I say that it’s far more than just a box.

I have been a member for almost a year and I have loved every single day.
I started with MY SPOT classes for a month (you can call it CrossFit 101), I learned a lot from it, the correct technique for Olympic lifts and all CrossFit related movements, I received a detailed manual that explained what we would be learning during the month.
The employees and coaches are ALWAYS friendly and helpful. The coaches make sure you understood how to do the exercises and will correct your form when needed. They constantly push and encourage you to do your best.
Coach Billy is awesome. He always wants to make sure all athletes are enjoying their time and he is my motivator. He doesn’t allow me to get frustrated when things get hard or complicated, instead he offers guidance and ways to overcome what seem like mental roadblocks.
The facility is impeccably clean, thanks to Charlie, a fellow CrossFitter. All the equipment is very well organized and the locker room is filled up with all you need ( body and hair towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, body lotion, hair dryer, elastic hair tie, hair pin) If you are considering joining, take the jump. You won’t regret it, you’ll actually fall in love with SPOT.

I have been a member of SPOT since the Fall of 2015. Before joining, I had been doing CrossFit for a few years at different gyms across the country and had recently moved to NYC. Being new in town, I researched different gyms online and decided to give CrossFit SPOT a try. I am glad I did.

I quickly found that this is not your average gym; it’s simply a cut above. The class schedule accommodates a busy NYC lifestyle with morning/evening and weekend classes. The instructors are passionate and knowledgeable so you always get the most out of your time at the gym. It’s a great facility with complimentary lockers, towel service, and showers so you can easily get ready after your workout.

I have seen more progress the months that I have been going to CrossFit SPOT than the years I’ve spent at other gyms. I am stronger, faster, and have more endurance now than ever. I encourage anyone that is interested in getting into shape or improving their physical fitness to try it out.
